Economic Status of Japan
Japan has an industrialized, free- market economy, and it is the third largest in the world. Its economy is highly efficient and competitive in areas linked to international trade. However its productivity is lower in protected areas such as agriculture, distribution and services. Japan has few natural resources, trade helps it earn the foreign exchange needed to purchase raw materials for its economy.
Japans economy is doing very well, we can see this by looking at statistics from the country. Literacy rates in Japan are at 99% of the population (men and women). This shows that education is a priority and Japan, and that they are a well-developed country. Also unemployment is only at 8%, leaving Japan to be 119 out of all the countries. This shows that the economy is doing well considering the low unemployment rate. The population that is below the poverty line is 16%, this is higher than it should be. However by looking at other statistics related to Japans economy one can see that the economy is doing well as a whole. The Labor force in Japan is at 65.55 million which makes Japan number 9 out of all the other countries. Japan clearly has a strong economy on the global stage.
GDP-per capita (PPP): $36,900 (2012 est.)
